Legislative Update-Tuesday, March 10, 2026
From 2026-03-16 to 2026-09-01Dear GIA members,
Last week the Joint Committee on Environment and Natural Resources held a public hearing on two, late-filed home rule petitions.
H.4700 - An Act Authorizing the Town of Truro to Regulate the Use of Pesticides
H.5076 - An Act Relative to Reducing the Use of Toxic Pesticides in the Town of Eastham
As you can see from the titles, they are focused on carving these communities out from under the statewide pre-emption on regulating pesticides.
Attached is draft testimony, please let us know if you would like to see any specific edits - please email me directly by this Friday.
We will submit the testimony to the Committee early next week. As you may recall, a few of us met with the House Chair of Bills in the Third Reading, Rep. Tom Walsh several weeks ago to share our concerns with similar legislation that is based on regulating fertilizers (H.4437). While the target may be different (fertilizer/pesticides) the principal argument remains the same - these are heavily regulated products already and the systems are working.
Hope everyone is enjoying the weather!
