Rhode Island Emissions Bill

Rhode Island bill looks to make all lawn care equipment zero emissions by 2027

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — A new bill at the Rhode Island State House is looking to make all lawn care equipment zero emissions by 2027, but it’s receiving pushback from those that use the equipment the most.

“This is part of a broad range of environmental bills that are moving forward in the General Assembly to try to bring down emissions,” Rep. June Speakman, the lead sponsor of the bill, said. “These lawn care devices, emit lots of pollution of all kinds, including CO2 and other greenhouse gases.”

Peter Ryan at American Lawnmower Service said it’s a good idea but not yet feasible. “I think the idea is good, just not yet with what I’ve seen out with the prices of the batteries and whatnot,” he said. “To me, it’s a no go.”
